Mexican War records, 1846-1848.

Volume containing manuscript copies, in several unidentified hands, of company, regiment, and army-wide orders; company rolls; a log of the voyage of the ship Remittance from Boston to Matamoros, Mexico; surgeon's certificates of disability; records of clothing, arms and equipment received;and other materials documenting the activities of Company B of the 1st Massachusetts Infantry Regiment from December of 1846 to February 1848. The company was formed in Boston, ordered to Matamoros in February 1847, and was stationed at Matamoros, Monterrey, Vera Cruz, and Mexico City during the war. Principal names represented in the volume include Captain John H. Barry; Colonel (later Brigadier General) Caleb Cushing; Adjutant W. W. H. Davis; Otis Hoyt, surgeon; Robert Marchall, Commander of the Remittance; and Colonel Isaac H. Wright. Laid in the volume are two manuscript orders to Captain Barry from Adjutant W. W. H. Davis dated February 5 and May 28, 1847, copies of which appear in the volume.
